A Student Once Again

I started school today. I'll be honest, I was a bit apprehensive on the bus riding into the train station. And was SUPER early. But I have a very nice instructor, and 5 diverse fellow classmates- one from Poland, two from Libya, one from Hong Kong, and one from Ecuador. I'm glad we've been working on Rosetta Stone, as pitifully little as we've done, or I would be slower on the uptake. We are hopping right into verb conjugations...I think I need to brush up on my English grammar to remember the names of tenses and such. But it reminds me of Spanish a bit, with the way conjugating goes, so that's helpful.

There is the best coffee shop just around the corner from my school. I have a tentative plan to frequent it after class to do my homework. They have killer toasted crustless ham and cheese sandwiches. Makes me hungry just thinking about it. Also, they have great vanilla lattes, and compared to Starbucks, it is much cheaper...although probably the same price as Starbucks in the states, conversion considered.

It started snowing right when I got out at 12:30! I say that. But maybe it was snowing before and I just didn't see it. No chance of a snowstorm, I think, just flurries. But beautiful all the same. Also, I have a weekly bus pass! I feel like such a native. No more stopping to fumble at the front figuring out what ticket I'm buying and what the driver is saying. For the week anyway. The man in the ticket window by the station said I did a good job saying 'week'. That was exciting as it includes the tricky 'ch' sound not found in English.

I've finished my homework, but am off to organize my notes. Happy Monday to you!

A New Year!

Well, we are back from holidays in the States. I start language school a week from today. Our flat finally looks and feels like a home! All exciting things. It is especially nice to be able to have the car as an option aside from walking, buses or trains. It really saved the day today on a trip back from the grocery store with two (surely) 25 lb bags. A nice 3 min drive instead of a 15 min walk. Very grateful.

It was wonderful to see all our friends from the fall and make new ones at the regular Pullman Hotel gathering Friday. I look forward to catching up with them more this week before I start school. Homework! Haven't thought about that in quite some time. Hopefully I'll pick it up quickly. A new language, new friends, new community, new routine, new home. Makes me Oh-so-glad Jesus is always the same...cheers!
